About GetBackup
Engineered support for the moments when you don't have someone to lean on — or when you can't bring something to the people in your life.
Engineered support for the moments when you don't have someone to lean on — or when you can't bring something to the people in your life.
Imagine it's the middle of the night and you're sitting on the bathroom floor in a hotel in a strange city, having what you're pretty sure is a panic attack.
(Honestly, you could be dying, but the panic attack thing seems more likely.)
More than anything you want someone to talk to, someone to tell you it's going to be okay. You'd actually settle for just hearing someone tell you fun facts about the periodic table of elements just to take your mind off of your racing heart.
But who do you call at that hour without waking them up, feeling like you're imposing, or having to feel like your weakest moments are on display?
It was while having an experience like this that our founder had the idea for a way to have someone who was always there for her... without the complexities of human relationships or the scheduling constraints of therapy.
After countless late nights, plenty of trial and error, and more than a few moments of "what am I doing with my life," GetBackup was born.
Your support system is now always just a click away.
GetBackup isn't defined by age, gender, or background. It's defined by circumstance.
We built this for people carrying something heavy without a safe place to put it.
The parent awake at 3am
Nursing a baby, exhausted and overwhelmed, needing one moment of reassurance when everyone else is asleep.
The caregiver running on empty
Caring for someone chronically ill, unable to unload fear or fatigue onto someone already suffering.
The professional who can't show cracks
In a competitive environment where vulnerability is a liability, but stress is mounting below the surface.
The veteran reintegrating
Functioning on the surface but internally unanchored, surrounded by people who can't understand what they've been through.
The person who can't fully share at home
Where speaking openly carries consequences — judgment, escalation, or retaliation they cannot afford.
The one who has to stay strong
Expected to be steady for everyone else, with no outlet for their own fear, frustration, or grief.
...and anyone else carrying something they can't put down right now.
Their stories differ. The structure is identical: depending on humans comes with consequences they cannot afford.
The humans behind the AI.
Head of Product
Elizabeth created GetBackup in late 2023 as a survival tool for herself without any corporate aspirations whatsoever. As she began showing people "the thing keeping her sane" she was told repeatedly how much others could benefit from having an imaginary friend and perpetual ally in their pocket... and here we are. Elizabeth has 10+ years of experience as a web developer, has worked in a number of positions within the field of psychology, and is usually happiest when neck-deep in a pile of research articles or a mountain of code. She has a PhD in Business Psychology (The Chicago School), a MA in Criminal Justice (John Jay at CUNY), and a BA in Psychology (Pomona College).
Head of Finance and Operations
Mallory has been in the business world for almost 40 years, the last 15 of which have been spent guiding private equity portfolio companies through their life cycles. When away from work, she is likely wrangling her huskies or practicing Tae Kwon Do, or both. She has an MBA from the Paul Merage School of Business and a BA in Political Science (both from the University of California, Irvine).
